Bonsai – SaaS for Project & Client Management

Hello Bonsai is an all-in-one business management platform designed to streamline operations for freelancers and small businesses. It offers tools for client management, project tracking, invoicing, and financial management, enabling users to focus more on their core work and less on administrative tasks.

During my tenure at Bonsai, I was a member of the Workflow team, collaborating closely with a product manager and developers. Our collective efforts were dedicated to enhancing the platform’s functionality and user experience. Below are some of the key projects I contributed to:

Selected quality projects

Improving the sign up onboarding

The previous single-page sign-up process was limiting in terms of collecting essential user information. We redesigned the sign-up experience to be a wizard-style flow, allowing us to gather more detailed information from users in a structured manner.

By breaking down the sign-up process into smaller, more manageable steps, we encouraged higher user engagement as users were less overwhelmed by a lengthy form. It also enabled us to collect more relevant information from users to personalize their experience and tailor our offerings to their needs.

This effort resulted in higher engagement, conversion rates, and overall satisfaction.

New Forms Feature

We introduced a powerful new forms feature designed to streamline data collection and enhance workflow automation. This functionality enables users to create fully customizable forms tailored to their unique needs, significantly improving efficiency in gathering and organizing client information.

By integrating this feature directly into the platform, we’ve empowered users with a seamless experience for structuring their data, reducing manual input, and minimizing friction in client interactions. Looking ahead, we plan to enhance automation capabilities by leveraging form responses to trigger project creation and workflow optimizations, further simplifying complex processes.

This robust forms tool not only improves data accuracy but also strengthens the overall platform experience, allowing users to work more effectively and focus on high-value tasks.

Task Drawer Redesign

The previous task interface was a modal, which proved to be limiting and less user-friendly. As a team, we recognized the need for a more efficient and intuitive task management solution. Transitioning from the modal to a drawer design, we aimed to unlock additional screen real estate and improve the overall usability of the task management system.

The result of our efforts is a revamped task drawer that offers a more spacious and streamlined user experience. With increased screen space, users can seamlessly add, edit, and organize tasks, leading to enhanced productivity and smoother task management workflows.

Pricing Modal Update

We redesigned the pricing modal to improve clarity, streamline decision-making, and enhance user trust. By refining the selection process, we created a more intuitive experience that helps users quickly identify the best plan for their needs.

Through A/B testing, we discovered that displaying pricing within the payment step led to higher engagement and conversion rates compared to inline pricing tables. We also introduced subtle trust signals, such as credit card icons and social proof elements, to reinforce credibility and reduce friction in the decision-making process.

This iteration not only simplified the UI but also aligned pricing visibility with user expectations, ultimately driving a more seamless and confident purchase experience.

Projects Board View

I contributed to the development of a kanban-style project board view, which offers users a more visual and organized method to manage projects. In addition to providing enhanced visual clarity, we empowered users to customize their board by allowing them to drag and drop columns and edit groups according to their preferences. Incorporating user feedback, we expanded the available statuses to better accommodate users’ project management needs. This flexibility ensured that users could tailor the board to their specific workflows, further improving their project management experience.
